Character NAME: Nico Robin (Japanese naming convention; she goes by Robin)
Canon & MEDIUM: The anime/manga 'One Piece'
Canon PULL-POINT: Post-Fishman Island
Character AGE: 30
Character ABILITIES: Robin has the power of the Hana Hana no Mi, a 'devil fruit' which grants the user the ability to sprout duplicates of their body (pieces or the whole) from the surface of any object or living thing. As the word 'hana' means 'bloom' in Japanese, there are little pink petals that puff out from wherever she sprouts something. She can sprout them from other sprouted pieces, combine pieces into shapes (such as wings), and maintain the parts until she decides to dismiss them or falls unconscious. They can be as big or as small as she likes as well. The pieces are only as strong as she would be, and she does feel pain when they are harmed. That said, she is quite a bit more durable than most people though whether this is from extensive training or a side effect of the devil fruit ability is hard to say. For more specifics, click here. One thing to note is that generally, she will cross her arms over her chest when using her ability, possibly to keep from mixing up which limbs are moving how.
She's also genius level when it comes to intellect and languages, having earned the status of archeologist at the age of eight while also teaching herself how to read the ancient language of the Poneglyphs.

Character PERSONALITY:
Robin is quiet. She never made much of a fuss, mostly because it was always a bad idea whether she was going to be punished by her aunt for being a bother or because it would help the World Government to find her. Not only that, but she prefers the quiet. Even as a child, she would take her books out into the forest to read in peace and had absolutely no interest in the other children or their games. That's usually where one will find her: relaxing, enjoying a book, and keeping to herself. She's never the first one to speak up on things, preferring to see what the others might say or know before telling them what they've missed.
That isn't to say that she doesn't like people. She loves those she can connect with, those who understand her and give her the space she needs without seeing it as a slight; as a child, it was with the scholars of Ohara and Jaguar D. Saul. Now, she's found a place with the crew of the Strawhat Pirates and there is no one and nothing she cares about more than them. Even when she thought she had to die, that dying was better than eventually being betrayed by them, she was allowing herself to be taken to try and save them.
Despite the tragedy in her life, Robin is anything but sullen or solemn. Her quietness is simply a part of her; her contentment and her joy are more likely to be expressed with a soft smile than a vocal laugh but she feels joy more than she ever thought she would and values it almost as much as historical treasures. Very often, her quietness is to mask the fact that she's thinking, especially as she can have some very odd (and occasionally morbidly hilarious) thoughts. Her sense of humor is dark, usually quirky, and tends towards the dry, but she can be pretty amusing.
The contentment is a new thing. After years of running and countless betrayals by all manner of people, Robin didn't trust anyone and in fact was convinced that she didn't deserve their trust either. The poison that had been dripped in her ear by the World Government, that she was evil, that the scholars she'd loved were evil, that she was the cause of the death of the civilians, that she didn't even deserve to live, that just that was a crime... she had a lot of self-hatred, a lot of doubt, and very little reason to believe that she deserved to be alive at all, let alone happy. The actions of her crew, however, convinced her that she was worthwhile and that there were people who loved herf. That her mission was good and just and necessary. And, most importantly, that she deserved to have a life no matter what the rest of the world said.
History is her driving passion. While she works not only to continue the work of the fallen Ohara scholars, her love and reverence for history and historical items is a force on its own, enough that she can and has killed those who might disrespect them. At the heart, her love of history has to do with a love of truth: discovering it and showing it to the world. Her goal, which involves finding the Rio Poneglyph and revealing the True History of the Void Century (a period whose records have been blacked out by the current World Government) is what she travels for (other than to be with her crew) and she is very firm on the fact that she has to do it herself to truly understand it well enough to teach others because otherwise, how is it worth it?
As you might have guessed, she's a fighter. She spent most of an arc being kidnapped (mostly because she thought it was the best for everyone), including some nasty beatings from her captor, but the second she was unchained after her crew had made it clear they would do anything to save her, she got right up and jumped into the fight. She doesn't really have a temper: her anger is cold and precise and while never cruel, she is NOT a nice person to cross; her farewell present to said captor was to snap his spine, and she's one of the few crew members who are known to have definitively killed people on purpose.
» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: A set of pistols. Theoretically, it would be 2 guns, but hopefully it would grow so that if she sprouted another hand, there'd be another in the set to fill it.
Chosen SKILLSET: Robin is a skilled fighter who has trained to have above average strength and extensive control of her abilities; that said, her greatest skills are intellectual. She would be great as a researcher, spy, or strategist.

First PERSON: [VIDEO]
[The camera turns on, revealing an attractive woman in stylish clothing. In her lap a book, and beside her on a table are a number of other books. She stares right into the camera for a moment, utterly silent, until a mildly amused expression breaks her composure.]
Oh yes. I'm supposed to speak, aren't I?
[She seems to find this amusing as opposed to irritating or awkward and her head tilts to the side curiously]
I don't suppose anyone has any decent historical volumes on this place? The volumes I've found are very interesting, but greater context is always an advantage when trying to delve into the past.
[She pauses, as if considering what else she might want. Then, with a soft little smile, she says-]
I also wouldn't mind a piece of cake.
[..someone has gotten used to having a chef on board willing to supply her every request]
Third PERSON:
It had only been a few days, really, since she'd reunited with her crew. That's what it felt like, anyway. So short a time after two years away from them, away from her nakama. Her time with the Revolutionary Army had been amazing, in its own way, but it had still been away from the people she considered the most important in the world.
And now she was here.
She supposed it was probably for the best. She hadn't had time to get used to them again, the familiar noises and squabbles they had aboard the ship while she sat quietly off to the side to read. At the same time, though, she'd gotten to see them. She'd gotten to see how they'd grown and changed and in some cases, truly come into themselves. As much as it hurt to be away from them now, to know that she couldn't peek in on Sanji in the kitchen or get a smile out of Chopper or just see her captain, it would have hurt much more without knowing that they'd survived in their two years apart. Aside from her own concern for them, her time with the Revolutionary Army had made her aware of just how important she (and they) were.
And now, she was apparently going to be important for another world, for another Revolution in the making. Of all the Strawhat pirates, she had to admit it was probably best for her to be here. She knew how to be quiet, how to blend in, how to step in the shadows, and how to make deals to keep yourself alive. Nami might have done well in this place, they certainly would have appreciated Usopp's and Franky's engineering abilities or Chopper's medical skill, but her captain...
He was the one she missed most of all, though. Something about Luffy's brightness, his gregarious lust for life and adventure...
The crew had all fought for her, all put themselves on the line for her, and she adored them all, each and every one. But her captain... something about him made her feel more alive than she ever had. It had made her want to live, not just because of his infectious energy, but because in Luffy, she saw her dreams. She saw traveling the Grand Line, finding the Poneglyphs, and most importantly, she saw the beginning of a time where she could share their knowledge with the world. She knew he wished to be the Pirate King, but in Luffy, she saw someone who could make something world-changing out of the title.
She wanted to live in that world. So if that meant doing what she had to do here, helping this world, anything, she'd do it. She'd give them everything she had and then she'd give them some more. All she needed was to survive.
» ADDITIONAL NOTES None that I can think of; she's coming fresh off the Grand Line.
